YBhg. Dato’ Bakarudin Ishak joined Bank Negara Malaysia in 1985 as Assistant Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), overseeing the Financial Sector Regulations and Policy which covered Islamic Banking and Takaful, Prudential Financial Policies, Consumer and Market Conduct, and Financial Surveillance. He was also in charge of Financial Sector Development covering Payments System, Developments Financial Institutions, Islamic Banking and Takaful, and Financial Sector Development Department.
Prior to his appointment as Assistant Governor, YBhg. Dato' Bakarudin had served in several senior positions in the Bank which include the Director of Foreign Exchange Administration Department, Director of the Islamic Banking and Takaful Department, and was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Electronic Clearing Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyClear), a wholly owned subsidiary of BNM. During his early years in the Bank, he also worked in the area of money market operations and local foreign exchange market operations. He left the Bank on 20 January 2017.
YBhg. Dato’ Bakarudin is a member of BNM Monetary Policy Committee and BNM Financial Sector Stability Committee, and a member of the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) EXCO and Governing Council. He also served in the Investment Panel of the Employee Provident Fund and holds directorships in Cagamas Holdings Berhad (Chairman), Cagamas SRP Berhad (Chairman), and Affin Islamic Bank Berhad (Board of Director). Additionally, he is the Chairman of Board Nomination and Remuneration Committee, a member of Group Board Risk Management and Compliance Committee, and a member of Board Oversight Transformation Committee.
YBhg. Dato’ Bakarudin holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree from University of Malaya.
